Kerala style Dal curry
Kerala style simple Dal(paripp) curry:
We can prepare this recipe in two styles:
Simple dal curry and dal with coconut paste.
Ingredients:
Dal: 100 gm
Green chilies: 3 nos
Mustard: 1 tbs
Red chilies : 2 to 3 tbs
Small onions(shallots): 3 to 4 nos
Salt: as required
Curry leaves
Cumin seeds: 1/4 tbs
Turmeric powder :1/4 tbs
Red chili powder : 1/2 tbs
Water
Oil
With coconut paste:
Grated Coconut: 1/2 coconut
Preparation:
Cook dal in a pressure cooker(for 1/4 cup of dal use 1 cup water). Wait for 2 whistle . Then off the flame.
Simple dal curry:
In a pan add 1 table spoon of oil, once hot add mustard, 2 red chilies, and 2 stems of curry leaves fry it well. Then add green chilies and shallots into and stir the mixture. Pour Cooked dal into this mixture. Add 1 tbs salt and mix it well. Simple dal curry ready.
With coconut paste:
Grind coconut with 1/4 tbs of cumin seeds and 1/4 cup of water. make a paste of it.
Using a ladle make a paste of the cooked dal or in a mixer make a paste of dal.
Mix coconut paste and dal paste in a heavy bottom pan. In low flame cook the mixture. Add 1/2 tbs red chili powder, 1/4 tbs turmeric powder and 1/2 tbs of salt. Mix it well . Once start bubbling off the flame. No need to cook for long time. Just need to start to form the bubbles.
In a pan add 1 table spoon of oil, once hot add mustard, 2 red chilies, and 2 stems of curry leaves fry it well. Then add green chilies and shallots into and stir the mixture. Pour this mixture into the dal mixture and mix it well.
Tasty simple dal curry with coconut ready. Serve with rice.
